Terms and Conditions for the Dare to Guess Halloween Competition 2026

These are the Terms and Conditions for the Midsummer Place Dare to Guess Halloween Competition 2026, held in partnership with Table Tennis England.

General

1. The "Promoter" of this competition is Midsummer Place, managed by property company Midsummer Place Ltd, 35 Ballards Lane, London, United Kingdom, N3 1XW, a company registered in England (“we”, “us” or “our”).

2. To participate in the competition, you must submit your competition entry (see sections 7 and 8 below) during the "Competition Period". The competition will be promoted at Midsummer Place shopping centre, on the Midsummer Place website and across its social media channels. Entrants will be able to participate by scanning the QR code displayed alongside the Halloween cauldron on East Boulevard and completing the online entry form.

3. Entries must be made during the Competition Period, commencing on Friday, 23 October 2026, and closing at 23:59 on Sunday, 1 November 2026. Entries submitted outside of the Competition Period will not be valid.

4. If you wish to participate in the competition, you agree to these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). By entering the competition, all "Entrants" will be deemed to have accepted these Terms, so please read them carefully.

5. The competition is only open to legal residents of the UK aged 18 and over. The competition excludes employees, contractors, agents and service providers of Midsummer Place and Table Tennis England, as well as immediate family members of such individuals and anyone professionally associated with this competition.

Entry

6. Entry into the competition is restricted to one entry per individual person. No purchase or payment of any form is required to enter the competition.

7. All entry instructions for the competition will form part of these Terms. Entry instructions will be available on the Midsummer Place website and via the QR code displayed alongside the Halloween cauldron on East Boulevard.

8. To enter the competition, entrants must visit Midsummer Place during the Competition Period, view the Halloween cauldron display and submit their guess as to how many ping-pong ball eyeballs are contained within the cauldron.

Entrants must scan the QR code displayed at the installation and complete the online SurveyMonkey entry form, providing the following information:

  • Full name
  • Valid email address
  • Their guess of the total number of ping-pong ball eyeballs inside the cauldron

Only whole-number guesses will be accepted.

The cauldron contains a fixed number of ping-pong ball eyeballs, alongside decorative materials used to support the display. Only the ping-pong ball eyeballs will count towards the correct answer. The number of eyeballs will remain confidential until the competition has closed.

Entrants who do not follow the entry instructions, provide the required information or successfully submit their entry during the Competition Period may be disqualified.

Automated, fraudulent or duplicate entries are prohibited. Entrants must not use multiple email addresses, identities or other methods to submit more than one entry. Any entrant found attempting to submit multiple entries may be disqualified.

Prize(s) & Winning

9. There shall be one "Winner" of this competition, who will receive a table tennis prize bundle, courtesy of Table Tennis England, consisting of:

  • One table tennis table (Midsummer Place)
  • Table tennis bats
  • Table tennis balls

There will be one prize bundle awarded in total.

10. We reserve the right to: (i) award an alternative prize of equal or greater value where necessary; (ii) in unavoidable circumstances vary the closing date of the competition; (iii) cancel or refuse any individual's entry if they are in breach of these Terms; and (iv) in exceptional circumstances amend these Terms, in which case we will notify entrants and potential entrants of any significant changes.

11. The Winner will be determined based on the number of ping-pong ball eyeballs contained within the Halloween cauldron.

The winner selection process will operate as follows:

  • If one entrant correctly guesses the exact number of ping-pong ball eyeballs, that entrant will be declared the Winner.
  • If no entrant correctly guesses the exact number, the entrant with the closest guess will be selected.
  • If multiple entrants submit the correct answer, or multiple entrants submit guesses that are equally close to the correct answer, those entrants will be entered into a random prize draw.
  • Where a random draw is required, one Winner will be selected at random from the eligible tied entries.

Guesses both above and below the correct number will be considered equally where they are the same numerical distance from the correct answer.

The Promoter will verify the correct number of ping-pong ball eyeballs before the competition begins and retain a record for the purposes of winner selection.

The Winner will be contacted via the email address provided on their competition entry form following the close of the Competition Period.

The Winner will have seven (7) calendar days from the date of notification to respond and confirm acceptance of their prize.

If the Winner does not respond within this period, is found to be ineligible or declines the prize, Midsummer Place reserves the right to select an alternative Winner using the same winner selection criteria.

12. The Winner's first name may be announced on Midsummer Place's social media channels and website, alongside an image representing the prize, subject to applicable data protection requirements.

13. The Winner may be invited to take part in promotional activity as part of receiving the prize, including publicity photographs.

If the Winner agrees to participate in such activity, they will be asked to complete an image release form allowing Midsummer Place to use their image and/or footage in promotional campaigns, which may include press and magazine advertising, direct mail, outdoor advertising, social media advertising, in-centre advertising, leaflets, flyers and the Midsummer Place website.

Participation in promotional photography is voluntary and is not a condition of receiving the prize.

14. The Winner and any other persons who agree to appear in promotional photographs or footage will not be entitled to receive payment for the agreed promotional use of their image or footage by the Promoter.

15. The decision of Midsummer Place and/or any independent judge (as applicable) is final and binding in all matters relating to this competition, subject to applicable law.

16. The prize will be as stated in these Terms and is subject to availability.

The Winner will be responsible for collecting their prize from Midsummer Place shopping centre, Milton Keynes, at a mutually agreed date and time, unless alternative arrangements are agreed in writing by the Promoter.

Midsummer Place will not be responsible for transportation or delivery of the prize unless otherwise agreed.

There is no cash alternative, in whole or in part, for the prize. The prize is non-negotiable, non-refundable and non-transferable and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers or promotions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
