Date
07 August 2025
Step back in time with the team at Milton Keynes Museum, every Thursday in August, 2pm to 3pm. learn about Iggy the Ichthyosaur and example fossil examples and enjoy a prehistoric themed craft activity. Read on for more details about the activity planned each week and how to book:
Join us for a “Make Your Own Fossil” activity, where young explorers can create their very own prehistoric imprint to take home. Using clay and real fossil examples for inspiration, children will learn how fossils form and get to press, shape, and decorate their own dino-themed keepsake. Drop in, dig deep, and discover the ancient world — perfect for curious minds and creative hands!
Get ready to dig like a real archaeologist in Week Two! Step into our Shoebox Dig activity and uncover hidden prehistoric treasures buried beneath the sand. With your own mini excavation kit — complete with shoebox, spade, and surprises — you’ll sift, search, and reveal ancient objects just like a fossil hunter. It's a hands-on adventure for curious kids who love to explore, discover, and get a little sandy!
Get crafty with MK Museum and create your very own moving Woolly Mammoth using split pins, colouring pencils, and lolly sticks. Kids can colour in their mammoth, cut it out, and assemble it into a fun, poseable prehistoric friend to take home. It’s a brilliant mix of creativity and history — perfect for little hands and big imaginations!
Get your gloves on — it’s time to investigate dino dung! In our final week, join MK Museum for “What’s in Iggy’s Poop?” — a wonderfully weird and hands-on activity where kids become prehistoric poop detectives! Dig into (fake!) dinosaur droppings to discover what Iggy the Ichthyosaur ate, using clues hidden in the play-dough. Then, draw and label your findings like a real palaeontologist. It’s messy, hilarious, and sneakily educational — don’t miss it!
All the Prehistoric Explorer events will be free to book, although if you enjoy your experience and would like to make a donation to the Milton Keynes Museum, there will be an opportunity to do so on the day, thank you!
