Tree 6 - Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) supporting Unity MK

MIB is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1946 to protect people from the devastation of uninsured and hit-and-run driving. We do this by compensating victims quickly, fairly and compassionately, and getting uninsured and hit-and-run drivers off our roads until it becomes a thing of the past. In 2023 our staff voted to support UnityMK as our charity partner and since then have been fundraising, volunteering, donating and even sleeping out to show their support for this incredible cause.

At UnityMK, we are dedicated to supporting individuals who face or experience homelessness in our city. Our mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by offering pathways of support that help people feel valued, connected, and empowered to find home and thrive.

At the heart of our work is the Unity Park Station Homelessness Centre, a welcoming hub for our dedicated welfare team, community groups, and support agencies. Together, we help around 200 people each week through essential services, including our Breakfast Service for rough sleepers and our Drop-in Service for anyone in need of support. During the coldest months, we run a Winter Night Shelter Service, providing 15 emergency beds where people can have a safe place to sleep.

We’re also renovating a building in Wolverton, which will become our main centre for crisis support. This new space will give us room to expand both our preventative and recovery work, while providing a place for community groups and statutory services to work together to better support our guests. Having our own building allows us to design spaces that meet current and future needs, creating a more welcoming, adaptable environment with room to grow our impact. The centre will serve both as a hub for preventative support and as a ‘next step’ for individuals who have already been helped into accommodation.
