Safari in the City Zebra

Grevy's zebras are the largest and rarest species of zebra in the world. Their striking black and white stripes make them one of Africa's most recognisable animals, but did you know that no two zebras have exactly the same pattern?

Scientists still aren't completely sure why zebras have stripes, but they believe they help confuse predators, regulate body temperature and even keep biting insects away.

Grevy's zebras have excellent hearing and eyesight, helping them detect danger from long distances across the African plains.

Unlike many other zebra species, Grevy's zebras tend to form smaller family groups and are known for their independence.

They can run at speeds of around 40mph, helping them escape predators when needed.

Grevy's zebras are native to the dry grasslands and scrublands of Kenya and Ethiopia.

Sadly, they are now one of the world's most endangered zebra species due to habitat loss and competition for water, making conservation efforts increasingly important.
