Meet Jock, the Gorilla!

You've discovered Jock, one of the amazing animals on the Safari in the City trail.

Gorillas are the largest living primates on Earth and are known for their incredible strength, intelligence and close family bonds. Although they may look fierce, gorillas are generally calm, gentle animals that spend much of their day eating, resting and caring for one another.

Did You Know?

Despite their size, gorillas are surprisingly gentle and spend much of their day foraging for food.

They live in family groups called troops, led by a dominant adult male known as a silverback. The silverback protects the group and helps keep everyone safe.

Gorillas are incredibly intelligent and have been observed using tools in the wild, communicating through a wide range of sounds, facial expressions and body language.

Adult males can weigh over 180kg, making them the largest primates in the world.

Where Do Gorillas Live?

Wild gorillas are found in the tropical forests of Central Africa, where they spend their days searching for food and caring for their families.

Sadly, habitat destruction and illegal hunting have caused gorilla numbers to decline, making conservation work vital for their future.
