Nubian Giraffe (Casper)

You've discovered Casper, one of the incredible animals featured in Safari in the City at Midsummer Place!

Nubian giraffes are the tallest land animals on Earth, famous for their long necks, striking coat patterns and gentle nature. Their height allows them to reach leaves that many other animals simply can't, making them perfectly adapted to life on the African savannah.

Did You Know?

A giraffe's long neck contains just seven vertebrae, exactly the same number as humans—each one is simply much larger!

Their distinctive coat patterns aren't just beautiful; no two giraffes have exactly the same markings, making each individual unique.

Despite their height, giraffes only need between 5 and 30 minutes of sleep each day, often sleeping in short bursts to stay alert for predators.

A giraffe's powerful heart can weigh over 10 kilograms and pumps blood all the way up its long neck to its brain.

Where Do Nubian Giraffes Live?

Nubian giraffes live across grasslands and open woodlands in parts of East Africa, where they spend much of their day browsing leaves from tall acacia trees.

Habitat loss and declining populations mean conservation programmes play an important role in protecting this magnificent species for future generations.
