Did You Know?

An elephant's trunk contains over 40,000 muscles, making it one of the most remarkable body parts in the animal kingdom. They use it for breathing, drinking, smelling, picking up food and even greeting other elephants.

Asian elephants are incredibly social animals and live in close family groups led by an experienced female known as the matriarch. Family members care for one another and work together to protect their young.

These gentle giants also have an incredible memory and can recognise other elephants and important locations, even after many years apart.

Where Do Asian Elephants Live?

Asian elephants are found across forests and grasslands in countries including India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia.

Unfortunately, habitat loss and human activity mean wild elephant populations are under increasing pressure, making conservation efforts more important than ever.
