Voting is now closed for the 2023 Christmas Tree Festival and our winners have been announced. Find out more here

Scroll down to find out more about Midsummer Place community Christmas tree festival. You can also view each of the trees (although we highly recommend visiting them in person as they are even more beautiful in real life!) and hear about their sponsors and nominated charities.

About the Christmas Tree Festival

Until the 24th December 2023, take a stroll through the malls at Midsummer Place and marvel at 18 beautiful Christmas trees, each decorated by a local business or organisation.

We are running a competition for the best dressed trees, and the three trees with the most votes at the end of the festival will each receive a cash donation for their nominated charity in the New Year!

But we can't do it without your help! YOU can help us support these incredibly worthy causes, and it won't cost you a penny: All we need you to do is tell us which three trees are your favourites, so we know who to award the prizes too!

Please make sure you vote before 5pm on Christmas Eve as any votes received after then will not be counted.

Tree 1 Walnuts web

The Walnuts School

"Where being unique is celebrated"

The Walnuts School is an all through school for children and young people who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or a Social Communication difficulty, aged 4 to 19. Our school is set across 2 campuses and is based in Hertford Place, Bletchley for students aged 4-11 and Hazeley, Milton Keynes for students aged 11 to 19.

The students are enriched with exciting lessons and activities to help prepare them for as much independence in adulthood as possible. This may be life skills, further education pathways or all the way through to employment.

This shines through in our Sixth Form, where we have a thriving enterprise programme, a sweet shop and a cafe and lots of opportunities for work experience in a range of occupations working in conjunction with local businesses.

Our young people have chosen the theme of the tree this year - to show PRIDE in who we are within our diverse community and also to celebrate the rebranding of our school to The Woodlands School from January 2024.

Please support our young people in their journey and vote for their tree!

Tree 7 - Slimming World Milton Keynes with Jane supporting Alzheimer's Research

Slimming World MK with Jane web

Slimming World Milton Keynes with Jane is an award winning, super supportive weight loss group running from venues in Stony Stratford, Wolverton, Old Stratford and Olney. Whilst losing lb's we are also committed to raising £'s for Alzheimer's Research a disease which has impacted so many of us.

As a failed dieter for over 25 years, Slimming World enabled me to lose weight without ever feeling hungry and after reaching my target weight with a loss of over 11 stone, I decided that I would like to help others achieve their goals.

Losing weight is easy when you have a fantastic plan, however changing the habits of a lifetime around how we think and feel about food is much harder. As an organisation we have over 50 years experience in the psychology of slimming and our friendly groups offer support without judgement or humiliation with other like minded people.

To find out more check out our facebook page - Slimming World Milton Keynes with Jane, or give me a call on 07886 808205

Jane's Dad was formally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia in 2017 although there had been signs for many years before that.

The diagnosis was devastating for him and all of Jane's family. To stand by and watch an articulate and intelligent man lose his vocabulary and sense of identity was soul destroying. Changes in personality and mood meant that the person they knew and loved gradually disappeared along with his memories.

Sadly Jane's Dad passed away on 10 August 2021 after a minor chest infection lead to a short stay at MK Hospital, where he contracted sepsis which lead to a fatal heart attack.

Jane says she couldn’t imagine how scared he would have been at the hospital amongst strangers who were ill equipped to deal with dementia patients and were also trying to deal with the consequences of a pandemic. He died alone without his family beside him.

Jane started raising money when he was first diagnosed because she felt powerless to stop this disease. She carries on now in his memory to one day stop others from facing the same.

Our vision is a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.

Alzheimer's Research are the UK's leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure.

This tree is a memory tree. Dementia often causes confusion and so this tree celebrates all occasions along with remembering loved ones we have lost. All decorations will be available to buy in the New Year to raise additional money for Alzheimer’s Research and have been made by Slimming World members across my groups.

Tree 8 - Bidwell Accountancy Limited supporting The Henry Allen Trust

Bidwell Accountancy web

Bidwell Accountancy is an accountancy practice with a difference.

With our head office based in Linford Wood, we are the accountancy practice with a difference.

We couldn’t be further from the image of old accountants, who produced mountains of paperwork and equally big accounting bills. If you have ever been confused by your accounts, then it’s time to try something very different.

Our aim is to make accountancy accessible and to make it work for you. We make good use of the latest technology to ensure your business is always up to date, that you have the most effective financial systems, and can see into the future!

We’ll be on your side every step of the way, by helping you form clear goals and planning how your business can best meet them.

John from Bidwell Accountancy met Dawn from The Henry Allen Trust at a local networking event

After hearing the heart-breaking story of how the trust was set up Bidwell Accountancy was keen to support as much as we could

The Christmas Tree event was a great opportunity to do this and support The Henry Allen Trust to continue its work raising vital funds for children, teens, young adults and their families battling childhood cancer

About The Henry Allen Trust:

The Henry Allen Trust is a registered charity based in Milton Keynes who support children, teens, young adults and their families battling childhood cancer throughout the UK and have been operating since 2014.

The Trust was started in memory of Henry Allen who lost his battle to Stage 4, MYCN Amplified High Risk, Neuroblastoma in 2013 to create ‘magical smiles’ and bring ‘happiness’ to children and their families battling childhood cancer. Everyone involved within The Trust works tirelessly to ensure no family feels alone during their cancer journey.

No family should face the horrible and traumatic journey that cancer inflicts, and The Henry Allen Trust is there for these families from initial contact, all the way through the rest of their journey, be it treatment, remission, or palliative/end of life care and beyond. We can’t wave a magic wand and make it all better, but we can be there to support and guide these families through.

The Henry Allen Trust provides the following services.

- Treats, wishes and financial grants. This support helps families experiencing financial hardship due to cancer, to pay their utility bills, buy essential food items, treat themselves or contribute towards a family break. Some examples of the treats we have granted include purchasing a PlayStation 5, a summer house and paid for a 12-month annual pass for the national trust.

- Support to hospitals across the country via arts, crafts and care packages. The trust has also funded training for 4 oncology nurses as there was a need for oncology nurses to be trained in administering Hickman lines and there was a lack of funding in the NHS.

- Access to a well-being therapist and a pet therapy dog who offer ongoing support to children with cancer and their families.

- Monthly activity through a support group. Every month the children and families we support are invited to join Team Henry for a fun activity where they can come together and share experiences with other families and enjoy some quality time together.

The Trust is currently supporting 200 families and 10 hospitals across the UK.

Tree 9 - Medical Detection Dogs supporting Medical Detection Dogs

Medical Detection Dogs web

There are two types of four legged heroes working for Medical Detection Dogs:

  1. Medical Alert Assistance Dogs support individuals with complex health conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, POTS and non-epileptic seizures by alerting them to an impending life-threatening medical episode. They typically give them a 5-10 minute warning so they can take the necessary action and avoid injury, hospitalisation, embarrassment and drama. As well as saving their lives they restore them, by giving them back their confidence and independence.
  2. Bio Detection Dogs are trained to accurately detect the odour of human diseases such as Cancer, Malaria and Parkinson’s from samples in the charity’s training room. This pioneering work could lead to dogs playing an important role in screening for diseases and improving patient care in hospitals. Beyond this, the charity’s vision is to help scientists and medics develop faster, cheaper and non-invasive methods of diagnosis that could impact on thousands of lives.

Dogs are the best biosensors on the planet. They have 300 million scent receptors in their noses, compared to a human’s 5 million, and can detect odour at parts per trillion. This is the equivalent of being able to smell a teaspoon of sugar in 2 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

We take the welfare of our Medical Detection Dogs extremely seriously. From the moment they come to us as puppies we ensure the highest standards of care for our dogs. We have a strict no kennel policy and all our dogs live in the homes of our staff or fantastic local volunteers where they are loved and cared for as part of the family.

This year we are celebrating our 15th Anniversary, 15 years of giving our clients their lives’ back. We are proud to say that we have placed over 200 lifesaving dogs and we are excited to look forward at what we can achieve in the future. We do not receive any government funding to carry out our life saving work, which means that we rely on the generosity of our Corporate Partners, our Supporters, Charitable Trusts and Foundations and incredible people like you, Members of the Public to fund our life-saving work.

18,000 local children are living in poverty right now – that means that there are thousands of parents and carers who know the stress and pain of not being able to provide dinner for their family. About our tree

Our learners are at the heart of everything we do, so of course we had to include them in our tree! Julia Klimaszewska, a former Level 3 Graphic Design student at the College, designed an amazing mural for our Chaffron Way campus, inspired by our vision of education that goes Beyond the Classroom. We loved the mural so much that we’ve taken elements of this and incorporated them into our designs.

Our Engineering department took Julia’s creations and used a laser cutter to produce the fantastic baubles you can see on the tree in our brand colours. Staff and learners from across the College then came together to decorate our tree – a real team effort!

We’ve also included baubles from the College’s charity partner, St Mark’s Meals MK, who we’re fundraising for as part of the Christmas Tree Festival. St Mark’s Meals do incredible work in our local community supporting families facing hardship and hunger, so we wanted to include them in this tree too.

Tree 13 - My Milton Keynes supporting Harry's Rainbow

Tree 13 My Milton Keynes web

MyMiltonKeynes is a non-profit organisation fully funded by businesses in Central Milton Keynes. We’ve been operating since June 2017 and deliver much valued projects including the Christmas lights and switch-on event, landscaping of the public walkways and the free mybus for Central MK employees. We are all about promoting the area and celebrating the great things Central MK has to offer.

Harry's Rainbow was founded in 2011. Since then, we have been supporting bereaved children and their families in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.

Harry’s Rainbow was founded after Odette Mould and husband Lee tragically lost their son, Harry Mould in 2009, leaving his twin sister Jessica without her sibling. After searching locally for their bereaved daughter to have some much-needed help and support, the closest was a 70-mile round trip to High Wycombe.

Our mission is to be one of the leading providers of support services for bereaved children and their families, offering them the emotional and practical support they need during the grieving process. We want to raise awareness about bereavement, the impact it has on families, and the services available at Harry’s Rainbow, giving families the support when and where it is most needed.

Odette Mould recognised the need for a service within the Milton Keynes area, so therefore in October 2011, Harry’s legacy, “Harry’s Rainbow” was born. Harry’s Rainbow is committed to supporting bereaved children and their families in the Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. They know how difficult it can be to help and support your children through their pain, grief and loss at the same time as trying to deal with your own. Therefore, they aim to support the children affected by the death of a very significant family member, such as a parent or sibling.

Harry’s Rainbow needs to raise approximately £250k per year to ensure their service meets the needs of those that require it. Please, if you can, make a donation to this amazing local charity that really does go above and beyond to help bereaved children in our community. Find out more on how you can help by clicking here
